Autumn's First Time Skiing / Broken Leg

Jay took Aspen and Autumn skiing Friday night.  It was Autumn's first time.  She was so excited!  He took her up on the hill and was ready to teach her and she just took off following Aspen.  She was a natural, she absolutely loved it.  And she didn't need any instruction!  It was amazing how fast she picked up on it.  Brighton and I took them dinner and she couldn't wait to show me how good she was.

Autmun, Jay , and Aspen ready to go skiing!  This is right after Eating dinner. I left and Jay took the girls skiing for several more hours.  Autumn was doing so well that Jay was able to send Aspen down a run and have Autumn follow then Jay could ski down at his own pace. 

At around 10:30 Jay was taking the girls up the chair lift and he asked them if they were tired and wanted to go or if they wanted to stay and ski until close at 11:00.   Both girls said that they wanted to stay.  They Love Skiing!!  2 minutes later Autumn fell while trying to keep up with Aspen.  This was her first time ever crashing and it wasn't much of a crash.  She didn't lose a ski or anything.  She just fell over and slid on her side!  She was so scared and was crying uncontrolably but Jay wanted her to get back up and continue.  He was afraid she wouldn't dare ski again if she ended her night with a crash, so he tried several times to get her to ski.  She wouldn't even but weight on her leg. She tried, but keep falling.  So Jay threw her over his shoulder and took her down the hill.  Jay feels horrible about trying to force her to continue skiing. 

Autumn went to sleep as soon as she got in the car and we carried her right to bed.  The next day she woke up crying and would not put any weight on her foot.  Jay put a splint on her and she sat on the couch all weekend and refused to move except to go to the bathroom. 

 

Monday morning we took her into see one of Jay's Attending's office so we could get an x-ray.  Autumn's x-ray, she has a spiral fracture of the tibia.  Jay just thought she was being a baby or at the very worst thought it would be a greenstick fracture (partial break, not all the way through).

She is doing fine now and milking it up!!  She is excited to stay home and watch TV.  She will be staying home from school for at least a week or until she learns how to use her little pediatric walker (Yes, a walker, just like the old people use).
